Sander Vermeulen,
Design Director BRU

Fiction writing is great. You can make up almost anything.
– Ivana Trump

Design Director Sander brings to Base a great sensitivity to typography, and a desire to inject a sense of tactility into everything he touches. He studied graphic design at Sint-Lukas Brussels and, before joining Base in 2010, worked under the names of Studio Wacosta, Studio Mastic, Fanclubproject, and I am Sanderson. He began his professional life as an illustrator and has worked with clients including McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Lucky Strike, and several newspapers. Since 2004 he has been responsible for the communications of the MuHKA museum in Antwerp, and has designed for important Brussels-based cultural institutions including the national Belgian opera La Monnaie/De Munt, Flagey, and the Beursschouwburg. A desire for each printed piece to be an object to cherish led to his recognition as a laureate for the Fernand Baudin and Plantin Moretus prizes in the category art books in 2009. Sander does graphic design like a real Flandrien: toiling and moiling and stoempen until the finish.

At Base Brussels he has worked on numerous visual identity projects including Bank Degroof Petercam, OMA, Ruhrtriennale, Haus der Kunst, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Andy Warhol’s Interview, The Olympic Museum, Maison Dandoy, Xavier Hufkens, The Art Collection Fund, Bulo, Erwin Wurm, Angel Vergara, Delvaux, Rives de Saône  and many more.
