Nobody puts Baby in a corner.
– Johnny Castle
Having a Japanese mother and a Belgian father, Fumi knows how to balance Eastern sensitivity with Western firmness. After passing her bachelor in philosophy, she studied at the Art Foundation in Bristol and discovered – besides drum and bass, coconut naan and Banksy – her passion for graphic design, materials and typography. Back in Brussels she earned a master degree in typography and graphic design from La Cambre Superior School of Visual Arts. After work experiences in a big ad agency and a tiny graphic design studio, she joined Base in 2006. She started as a graphic designer, became a production manager in 2008 and today is Base Brussels’ Budget & Production Director. Fumi developed brand identities and packaging for clients such as Hotel Missoni, Hennessy, Netjets, the Brussels Biennial and Graanmarkt 13. In 2008, she founded a small centre of art called “À St Médard” in Brussels’ famous flea market area. It’s a welcoming place to show art, meet interesting people, eat well and simply have a good time. Fumi loves books, paper and print’s perfume, Japanese and junk food. She may look small and sweet but don’t be fooled: Fumi is a lioness.
